Marine Fish Conservation Network

Another of the so-called grass-roots fishing organizations, this one supposedly representing environmentally conscious recreational and commercial fishermen (and surfers), the MFCN has received almost $5 million foundation dollars - over $4 million from Pew (link) , $375 thousand from Packard (link), $60 thousand from Walton (link), $300 thousand from Surdna (link) and $125 thousand from Rockefeller Brothers (link). These grants all went to the Americam Littoral Society.

Gib Brogan of Oceana referred to the MFCN as "a coalition that includes commercial fishermen and fishing groups in its membership.” In a column I wrote for National Fisherman, I dissected how narrow a range of fishermen the MFCN actually represented (link).
