The Lenfest Foundation Established by the founder of the Comcast cable network and his wife, H. F. (Gerry) and Marguerite Lenfest, the Lenfest Foundation used $20 million to start the Lenfest Ocean Program, which is administered by Pew (link). It's first major marine initiative was the Forage Fish Task Force at the Stony Brook Institute for Ocean Conservation Science (link), to which it granted $750,000 (link). The Lenfest Foundation, again through Pew, is supporting a fisheries enforcement initiative that is based far more on the "blame everything on the fishermen" philosophy developed and honed by Pew, than it does on the realities of the Northeast U.S. fisheries (link). Lenfest has also provided grants of $960000 to UBC's Fisheries Centre (link), $900,000 to Dalhousie University and $180,000 to MRAG Americas (link). |
